Dr. Wortman was born in Illinois but spent his early childhood in Costa Rica. His parents were missionaries in Costa Rica from 1960-1968. Upon returning to the U.S. his family lived in several locations, including Illinois, California, Florida, Massachusetts and New Jersey. Dr. Wortman has lived in Winston-Salem with his wife Rebecca S. Valla, MD and son, Zachary, since 1992. He enjoys playing soccer, reading and travel.
